Hybrid blended version of Swift Water Rescue Ops/Technician Level course
Full Description
This swiftwater course meets the standards for Ohio Fire Academy as a ops/technician trained responder for swift water rescue. Students will learn material through online classroom lecture and hands-on applications. Remote or indirect rescues will be stressed, and boat handling skills will be presented. Hands-on applications will be conducted at regional facilities and locations.

Prerequisites
NFPA 1006, 2021 edition, Chapter 1.3.9 Hazardous Materials requirement
Students are required to have at least H/M Ops.
NFPA 1006, 2021 edition, Chapter 1.3.9 Emergency Medical Care requirement,
American Red Cross First Aid (or equivalent) and CPR certification
BWC certificate of coverage from the affiliate department

Resources Required
Applicant must be in good physical condition, must be able to swim and complete the required swim test, have completed the Watercraft Boaters Education Course regardless of birth date or age, and a copy of your BWC insurance coverage certificate from your affiliate department before confirmation of enrollment is made. There is a rope requirement for this class, if a student has an accepted NFPA rope technician certificate, they are not required to sit for the rope test. However, these students are required to participate in the on-campus learning during the rope instruction.

Students will be required to successfully complete practical and written assessments as part of course completion. Additional information will be available upon course confirmation. Contact the Academy Rescue Program Coordinator with any questions.

Hands on sessions will include pool time and outdoor water exposure. Dry suits, helmets, boots, and personal flotation devices are provided.  You will need to provide your own gloves.  You may bring your own or department issue equipment, please allow the instructors to inspect them prior to use.  

Proper attire for the pool session will be a swimsuit, you are recommended to bring some form of shoe or footwear as the pool floor is rough and the shoes may also be used with the dry suits.

Outdoor sessions will require adequate clothing for insulation to be used underneath the dry suits. Adequate oversized boots or sneakers to wear over the dry suit are required. Further details will be provided during the introduction of the class.
Reporting Instructions
Ohio Fire Academy - Main Campus March 17th. Report to the security desk in the main building to check-in and receive your classroom assignment. Students must be in class no later than 09:00 on March 17th. All other training days will begin at 08:00. On campus class dates are March 17th-21st and March 24-28th.
