Full Description
This Ohio Fire Academy Incident Safety Officer Course is an intense virtual online program based on the 3rd Edition of Dave Dodson's Incident Safety Officer and the 2015 NFPA standards 1500, 1521 and 1561.  The purpose is to provide any fire officer who has been newly appointed as a Safety Officer, or is likely to fill the Incident Safety Officer role, the necessary tools to perform this vital role effectively. Topics will include Reading Firefighters, Reading Buildings, Reading Risk, Reading Smoke and Hazard Recognition. The course will help prepare the participants for the FDSOA ISO Certification Exam.

Per NFPA 1521 Chapter 5, Incident Safety Officer, JPR 5.1.1: "The fire department incident safety officer (ISO) shall meet the requirements of Fire Officer Level I specified in NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, and the job performance requirements (JPRs) defined in Sections 5.2 through 5.7."

Students MUST have the textbook at least 30 days prior to the course start date and have access to the Navigate platform. You will be required to read all chapters as well as complete quizzes and projects prior to the start of Day 1 in the virtual classroom. Students will also be required to pass a comprehensive final exam to pass the course.

I am a Volunteer Firefighter for purposes of Volunteer Support Grant Program if both of the following apply to you:

1. You are affiliated with or are endorsed by an Ohio volunteer fire department, a fire department of a political subdivision or fire district of this state, or a private volunteer company, as a firefighter;
and
2. You are NOT eligible or will NOT be eligible to be a member of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.

If you commenced work as a firefighter prior to November 8, 1990, please email the OFA at ofaweb@com.state.oh.us so that the OFA can assist in determining status.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR TEAMS ON A WINDOWS PC
Computer and processor: Minimum 1.6 GHz (or higher) (32-bit or 64-bit). Memory 2.0 GB RAM, Hard disk 3.0 GB of available disk space, Graphics hardware Minimum of 128 MB graphics memory.

Devices: Standard laptop camera, microphone, and headphones/ear buds.
For a better experience with online meetings, we recommend using a computer that has a dual-core processor and 8.0 GB RAM (or higher).
The optional Background video effects are not supported on processors without an AVX2 instruction set running on Windows 8.1 or below.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR TEAMS ON MOBILE DEVICES
Android: Compatible with Android phones and tablets. Support is limited to the last four major versions of Android. When a new major version of Android is released, the new version and the previous three versions are officially supported.
iOS: Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Support is limited to the two most recent major versions of iOS. When a new major version of iOS is released, the new version of iOS and the previous version are officially supported. The optional Blur my background video effect on iOS requires an operating system of iOS 12 or later and is compatible with the following devices: iPhone 7 or later, iPad 2018 (6th generation) or later, and the iPod touch 2019 (7th generation).

Reporting Instructions
Online from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Enrolled students will receive an email containing a link to access the course online. Login at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in the event you may have any technical issues.
