Full Description
This class has been developed by the National Fire Academy and is delivered at the state level by the Ohio Fire Academy. Students completing this class will receive certificates from both the Ohio and National Fire Academies.

This course is intended for those individuals who are at the first line level of supervision and above including:  

• First line supervisors in fire and emergency medical services organizations.
• Fire and emergency medical services personnel due for promotion/appointment to a first line supervisory position.
• Fire and emergency medical services personnel who are regularly assigned acting supervisory position.
• Fire and EMS personnel above the first line management level (Chief Officer or above).

This six-day course is the combination of the three two-day courses within the Leadership in Supervision Series. These include Creating Environments for Professional Growth (Course 0646), Perspectives in Thinking (Course 0647), and Frameworks to Success (Course 0648). This series presents the fire and EMS supervisor with the basic leadership skills and tools needed to perform effectively in the fire and EMS environment, to successfully transition to supervisory and leadership roles, and establish a conceptual foundation and framework for success in leadership roles by exploring creative, analytical, political and critical thinking perspectives. At the completion of this class there is a writing assignment based on the information learned which students are required to complete and submit in order to complete the class.

Volunteer Support Grant Program

I am a Volunteer Firefighter for purposes of Volunteer Support Grant Program if both of the following apply to you:

1. You are affiliated with or are endorsed by an Ohio volunteer fire department, a fire department of a political subdivision or fire district of this state, or a private volunteer company, as a firefighter;
and
2. You are NOT eligible or will NOT be eligible to be a member of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.

If you commenced work as a firefighter prior to November 8, 1990, please email the OFA at ofaweb@com.state.oh.us so that the OFA can assist in determining status.
