Full Description
This lunch time virtual session will provide information on test item writing practices that will allow the instructor to better challenge the student intellectually and more accurately measure student progress in both teacher-made formative and summative exams and editing publisher test items. The purpose of the exam; and test item construction and formats, common mistakes in item writing, advantages and disadvantages of various item formats, and challenges to item writing will be discussed.

At the conclusion of the session, students will be able to:

Describe the benefits of exams to the instructor and student.

Define basic terminology associated with item construction.

Describe types of test item formats.

Define parts of a test item.

Identify problems with test items.

Discuss advantages and disadvantages of various test item formats.
