Full Description
This class is designed for fire safety inspector recertification and is a three-day basic course designed to meet the needs of the fire prevention officer. This course uses a combination of
classroom instruction and hands-on skill building. It addresses code application during building construction, interpersonal communication, code interpretations, acceptance testing and
maintenance of fire protection systems.

Course objectives include: determining the need for a plan review; the steps of the plan review process; the general elements of a systematic plan review; site plans; building plans and
construction drawings for plans review; determining if plans meet egress code requirements; types of fire protection systems; what is required for a plan review and whether the system plans are code compliant.
Also covered are topics including: water supply requirements for automatic sprinkler and standpipe systems; design requirements for sprinklers; practical exercise on water supply calculations and basics system demand for varying types of sprinkler systems; plan review and approval standards for sprinkler systems; fire alarm systems; means of egress and fire department access.

Fire Chief attestation for volunteer firefighter support grant

I am  NOT eligible or will NOT be eligible to be a member of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.

If you commenced work as a firefighter prior to November 8, 1990, please email the OFA at ofaweb@com.state.oh.us so that the OFA can assist in determining status.

Resources Required
Come prepared to Learn. We will provide you a copy of the Ohio Building Code 2017 to use, however you are welcome to bring your own Fire Code and Building Code books so you can mark and highlight the different sections we will cover. It is suggested that you bring a highlighter (more than one color), post-it notes, page tabs. We will be using many blueprints but we ask you not to mark on the drawings but to use post-it-note instead.

Bring Engineering and Architectural Rulers (the ones with three sides) with you to class, as you will need both. They can be purchased at any office supply store
Reporting Instructions
Report to the main building at 9AM on the first day and 8AM every day after.

Please dress appropriate for the class (Uniform or Business Casual with Collared Shirt) NO shorts, NO blue jeans, No t-shirts or hats in any building.
