Full Description
This course complies with NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators and is designed for those with at least five years of experience in fire service and/or
law enforcement. Students will learn the fundamentals of fire scene investigation for origin and cause determination through interactive classroom presentations, lecture, group exercises and
hands-on practical exercises. Upon completion of this course, students will have the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to participate in a fire origin and cause investigation.
This course emphasizes the practical application of material learned during class time. Evaluations of students’ cognitive and hands-on performance will be conducted throughout the course, as well as with a final exam. Students who successfully complete all course requirements are eligible for certification by IFSAC.
Requirements: Documentation of completion of National Incident Management System 100 and 700; Employment Verification Letter and Statement of Qualifications forms; Ohio Department of Public Safety Firefighter or Law Enforcement Certification; BCI and FBI Back Ground Check (must be received 45 days prior to the start of class, OFA Code Number121-08). This information must be sent regular mail to the OFA Registrar’s Office.

Resources Required
Students selected for this course will need to bring the following: flashlight; camera; protective gear (coveralls, helmet, work gloves, hard sole shoes and safety glasses); departmental forms; and laptop. Selected candidates should be responsible for determining the origin and cause of fires.
