Brief Description: Online virtual instructor-led version of OFA Fire Officer II course

Full Description: This is the only Fire Officer II program in Ohio which allows students to receive both National Fire Academy and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) certification. This course is for fire officers in leadership roles for their departments and is designed to meet or exceed NFPA 1021, Standards of Professional Qualifications for Fire Officer II. To receive IFSAC certification for this class students must have IFSAC or ProBoard certification for their prerequisites or complete the required knowledge and skills examinations for those prerequisites in which they are not certified.

We will expand on management techniques learned in Fire Officer I and focus on public education and community relations, budget preparation and requests, legal responsibilities, time management, handling conflicts in the fire service, dealing with various media agencies, crew resource management, and emergency operations management.

This course is presented online and requires reading and studying new material in an environment of your choice. Evaluations of student performance will be conducted throughout the course, as well as with a final exam.

Prerequisites
• Completion of Firefighter II
• Completion of Fire Officer I
• Completion of Instructor I

If you are a State of Ohio Fire, EMS, or Fire Safety Inspector Instructor certification only (not IFSAC or Pro Board) you are required to you take and pass the Instructor I course completion exam in addition to the Fire Officer II course completion exam

Students admitted to the program who have not completed an accredited Fire Officer I program will be required to demonstrate competency by passing the Fire Officer I exam in addition to the Fire Officer II exam.

Prerequisites: Documentation demonstrating ProBoard or IFSAC certification in Fire Instructor I; or successful completion of NFPA 1041, 2012 edition, Chapter 4: Competencies for Instructor I.

Documentation demonstrating ProBoard or IFSAC certification in Fire Officer I; or successful completion of NFPA 1021, 2013 edition, Chapter 4: Competencies for Fire Officer I.
NIMS IS-200 Certificate
I acknowledge and understand that all prerequisites must be satisfied at time of registration and I will not request any waivers unless previously approved in writing by the course coordinator.

Volunteer Support Grant Program

I am a Volunteer Firefighter for purposes of Volunteer Support Grant Program if both of the following apply to you:

1. You are affiliated with or are endorsed by an Ohio volunteer fire department, a fire department of a political subdivision or fire district of this state, or a private volunteer company, as a firefighter;
and
2. You are NOT eligible or will NOT be eligible to be a member of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund.

If you commenced work as a firefighter prior to November 8, 1990, please email the OFA at ofaweb@com.state.oh.us so that the OFA can assist in determining status.

Directions to Location: This class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Login at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time in the event you may have any technical issues.

You will receive a schedule for the classroom presentations and specific class information when you are enrolled in the class.

Resources Required: HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR TEAMS ON A WINDOWS PC
Computer and processor: Minimum 1.6 GHz (or higher) (32-bit or 64-bit). Memory 2.0 GB RAM, Hard disk 3.0 GB of available disk space, Graphics hardware Minimum of 128 MB graphics memory.
Devices: Standard laptop camera, microphone, and headphones/ear buds.
For a better experience with online meetings, we recommend using a computer that has a dual-core processor and 8.0 GB RAM (or higher).
The optional Background video effects are not supported on processors without an AVX2 instruction set running on Windows 8.1 or below.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR TEAMS ON MOBILE DEVICES
Android: Compatible with Android phones and tablets. Support is limited to the last four major versions of Android. When a new major version of Android is released, the new version and the previous three versions are officially supported.
iOS: Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Support is limited to the two most recent major versions of iOS. When a new major version of iOS is released, the new version of iOS and the previous version are officially supported. The optional Blur my background video effect on iOS requires an operating system of iOS 12 or later and is compatible with the following devices: iPhone 7 or later, iPad 2018 (6th generation) or later, and the iPod touch 2019 (7th generation).

Fire Officer II NFA Application

Signup Details: Students must have computer and internet access to class. This is an intensive competency-based program with written assignments and classroom sessions. Evaluations of student performance will be conducted throughout the course, including skills testing and a comprehensive course final covering all Fire Officer II objectives. Students must purchase Fire Officer Principles and Practice, Enhanced Fourth Edition, with Navigate 2 Premier Access textbook, Published by Jones and Bartlett (ISBN: 9781284172393). Students should have the textbook in hand as soon as practical in order to access the written assignments online. Contact the course coordinator at the Academy if you are having any difficulty accessing the course in Navigate.
