Brief Description
Hybrid version of the OFA Hazardous Materials Technician course 80 hour course.
Full Description
Upon completion, participants will be prepared to enter hazardous materials hot zones to control spills and leaks using offensive measures designed to protect property and the environment. Students will have the opportunity to practice material learned in the classroom through hands-on exercises. The course also prepares students to recognize, respond and terminate a weapon of mass destruction event.

This course conforms to all competencies for OSHA 29 CFT 1910.120 HAZWOPER as well as NFPA 1072 competencies for Hazardous Materials Technicians. Students will learn the use of ICS, CBRNE, prevention and deterrence, clothing protection, basic chemistry, air monitoring instruments, control containment and confinement techniques, and terrorism threat assessment.

Copy of HazMat Operations certificate.
Copy of HazMat Awareness certificate.

Resources Required
Students are required to purchase IFSTA, Hazardous Materials Technician, 2nd Edition ISBN: 9780879396268 and complete all pre-course assignments prior to the start of class. Additional information will be forwarded by the course coordinator upon enrollment in the course. Be advised, it may take up to 7-10 days to receive your textbook, depending on the vendor.

Participants will be expected to wear SCBA for extended periods during the training process and are requested to bring a set of structural turnouts and an SCBA with a spare cylinder with them if available.

Students must successfully complete written and skill competency evaluations at the current course level and requisite levels of the discipline to successfully complete the course.

Prerequisite requirements: Documentation demonstrating ProBoard or IFSAC certification or successful completion of NFPA 472, 2013 edition or NFPA 1072, 2017 Edition; Chapter 4 Competencies for Awareness Level Personnel and Chapter 5 Core Competencies for Operations Level Responders, or the equivalent certification is required to enroll in this course.
Reporting Instructions
This class starts online on August 23,2021 with 12 scheduled 3.5-hour virtual instructor-led lectures, and meets on campus from October 4-8, 2021. Class will be Mondays and  Wednesday from 0900-1230 for six weeks to complete the virtual portion of the class.  

On October 4, 2021, report to the security desk in the main building to check-in and receive your classroom assignment. Students must be in class no later than 09:00 on the first day on campus. All other training days will begin at 08:00 unless advised otherwise by the lead instructor.
