Full Description
This course is required for certification in the state of Ohio as an Instructor for Fire, EMS, or CFSI and complies with NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I & II. The course provides the basic knowledge, skills and abilities needed to deliver effective instruction from a lesson plan while maintaining associated records.
Students learn theories of modern adult education and practice and teaching skills with in-class presentations. The course curriculum includes lectures, case studies, and class discussion. Students will deliver a speech, give demonstrations and teach from their own prepared lesson plans.
Students are required to attend all classes and pass both a written and practical exam to successfully complete the course. For certification, students must pass the Division of EMS
Instructor Techniques exam and complete student teaching requirements. Students who successfully complete all course requirements are eligible for IFSAC certification.


FIRE INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE: Possess a current firefighter certificate; in the preceding seven years, have at least five years of experience as a certified firefighter; pass instructor knowledge examination at the firefighter II level; and comply with O.A.C. 4765-21-03.

EMS INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE: In the preceding seven years, has been certified or licensed for at least five years as an EMS provider, registered nurse or physician assistant;
Possesses a current and valid certificate to practice as an EMS provider or holds a current and valid Ohio license to practice as a registered nurse or a physician assistant. Successfully passed the instructor knowledge examination within the preceding three years at the level of the individual’s certificate to practice as an EMS provider;

Certified Fire Safety Inspector Instructor:  In the preceding seven years, an applicant shall have been certified for at least five years as a fire safety inspector; and Shall possess a current and valid fire safety inspector certificate that is in good standing; Shall pass the fire safety inspector instructor knowledge examination as set forth in paragraph (C) of rule 4765-21-05 of the Administrative Code. The fire instructor knowledge examination shall be taken within one year prior to the start of a fire safety inspector instructor course.

All prerequisites must be met and documents uploaded no later than 14 days prior to the class start date.

Computer and processor: Minimum 1.6 GHz (or higher) (32-bit or 64-bit). Memory 2.0 GB RAM, Hard disk 3.0 GB of available disk space, Graphics hardware Minimum of 128 MB graphics memory.
