Fire Instructor I & II
Full Description
This course is required for certification in the state of Ohio as a fire instructor and complies with NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Instructor I & II. The course provides the basic knowledge, skills
and abilities needed to deliver e¿ective instruction from a lesson plan while maintaining associated records.
Students learn theories of modern adult education and practice and teaching skills with in-class presentations. The course curriculum includes lectures, case studies, and class discussion. Students will deliver a speech, give demonstrations and teach from their own prepared lesson plans.
Students are required to attend all classes and pass both a written and practical exam to successfully complete the course. For certification, students must pass the Division of EMS
Instructor Techniques exam and complete student teaching requirements. Students who successfully complete all course requirements are eligible for IFSAC certification.
** If using your certification exam as your entrance test, contact Ohio Division of EMS and request a letter of approval to do so.** This can be uploaded with your qualification form.

This course begins Friday, June 07, 2019, with online assignments and projects due prior to arrival on campus. The class meets face to face on campus Monday, July 22, 2019, at 9:00am to Friday, August 02, 2019. Students must complete the online portion of the course to be able to attend the on campus portion.

FIRE INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE: Possess a current firefighter certificate; in the preceding seven years, have at least five years of experience as a certified firefighter; pass instructor knowledge examination at the firefighter II level; and comply with O.A.C. 4765-21-03.

ASSISTANT FIRE INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE: Possess a current firefighter certificate; in the preceding seven years, have at least five years of experience as a certified firefighter; pass instructor knowledge exam at the firefighter I level; and comply with rule O.A.C. 4765-21-03.

All prerequisites must be met and paperwork uploaded 30 days prior to class start date
