Fire Officer I - NFPA 1021
Full Description
The Ohio Fire Academy offers the only nationally (NFA) and internationally (IFSAC) accredited Fire Officer I program in the State of Ohio. This course is designed to match NFPA 1021 standards of Fire Officer I. Students will learn essential techniques and skills in leadership including time management, delegation and prioritization in both routine and emergency situations. Students will have the opportunity to put skills to use in practice simulations and role play scenarios. This course is helpful in guiding the firefighter in the transition from peer to officer.
This course meets NFPA 1021, Standards of Professional Qualifications for Fire Officer I. Content includes, but is not limited to, leadership, supervisory and decision making practices, legal responsibilities, communication practices, report writing, workplace safety, quality assurance and pre-incident planning.

Course prerequisites: Firefighter II & Fire Instructor I.

Prerequisites
NFPA 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications; 4.1* General. For qualification at Fire Officer Level I, the candidate shall meet the requirements of Fire Fighter II as defined in NFPA 1001, Fire Instructor I as defined in NFPA 1041, and the job performance requirements defined in Sections 4.2 through 4.7 of this standard.

Reporting Instructions
This course begins Friday, February 08, 2019, with online assignments and projects due prior to arrival on campus. The class meets face to face on campus Monday, March 25, 2019, at 9:00am to Friday, April 05, 2019. Students must complete the online portion of the course to be able to attend the on campus portion.

The Courage to be Safe-16 Life Safety Initiatives course may have been completed at the OFA or online through the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation at www.everyonegoeshome.org.

Students must bring laptops or tablets to class. This is an intensive competency-based program  that includes pre-course and evening assignments. Evaluations of student performance will be conducted throughout the course, including skills testing and a comprehensive course final covering all Fire Officer I objectives. Students must purchase Fire Officer Principles and Practice, Enhanced Third Edition, with Navigate 2 Premier Access textbook, Published by Jones and Bartlett (ISBN: 9781284070439). Students should have the textbook in hand  as soon as practical in order to access the pre-course assignments online. Contact the course coordinator at the Academy if you are having any difficulty accessing the course in Navigate.

The $50 course fee is a result of a grant from the NFA. No show students will be invoiced the full cost of the course at $350.
