Full Description
This intense course is designed to prepare students to the level of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). This is a six week program which includes classroom and offsite clinical instruction in EMT skills. Several online assignments are to be completed and submitted prior to the first day of on-campus classes. All participants must have the physical strength necessary to perform the functions of an EMT. Embedded in this course is a daily one-hour physical training program. You will be expected to run 1 1/2 miles on the first day without stopping. This course runs Monday thru Friday, 7:00am to 5:00pm with some Saturday and evening sessions. Students will be required to complete field and hospital clinical time. Attendance is required for all physical training, classroom, and clinical sessions. Students will be eligible for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician's (NREMT) certification testing upon successful completion of the EMT course.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE FOR THIS COURSE IS JULY 15, 2022.

Students who wish to be accepted for the EMT program at the Ohio Fire Academy must submit registration online & upload copies of the following paperwork. Please see the DOCUMENTS section above and click on the document name for forms needed for this course.

1. Copy of valid driver license.
2. Medical examination - Submit the OFA physical exam form signed by an MD or DO.
3. Tuberculin PPD skin test (Shall not be more than one year old). The tuberculin assessment form must be completed if a previous test was positive.
4. Vaccination records to include
(A) MMR- Documentation of two MMR vaccinations or titer showing immunity.
(B) Varicella -Documentation of immunizations, or that student had the chicken pox ,or varicella titer showing immunity.
(C) Hepatitis B-Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series, proof of immunity to Hepatitis B, or written refusal of Hepatitis B vaccination.
4. SAMHSA 5 Panel Drug screening - Standard 5 panel urine drug screen for THC, Opiates, PCP, Cocaine, and Amphetamines.
5. BCI & FBI criminal background check - this can be done locally or at the State Fire Marshal's office by appointment. To schedule at the State Fire Marshal’s Office call (614) 752-7196. Please check the cost to have this done, as costs may vary.
6. Documentation of health insurance or workman's compensation coverage.
7. N.I.M.S. certificates for IS-100 & IS-700. These can be completed at http://training.fema.gov/is/nims.asp.
8. Student Liability Waiver - Located in the  Documents section
9. Students must meet a minimum education requirement. Materials that can be submitted for consideration are:
High School transcript with a 3.0 or higher GPA with 3 full credits for Math and 3 full credits for English
or
ACCUPLACER, SAT, ACT or COMPASS scores not older than five years
or
A college degree or college transcript showing successful completion of a college level math and English course
